ASSOCIATION OF AMERICAN SCHOOLS 

IN SOUTH AMERICA 
AASSA

Established in 1961, AASSA is a nonprofit, membership association which services 36 American international schools throughout South America and offshore islands. Of the 10 regional associations that assist overseas schools, it is the only one that offers an array of logistical and financial services in addition to professional staff development programs. 

AASSA is administered by an executive director and professional staff to assist with publications, in-service programs, grant management, purchasing, shipping and accounting.

The Association of American Schools of Central America, Colombia, Caribbean and Mexico (The Tri-Association) was established to provide services and information to three regional associations: The Association of American Schools of Central America, The Association of Colombian-Caribbean American Schools and The Association of American Schools of Mexico.

ASSOCIATION OF INTERNATIONAL
SCHOOLS IN AFRICA

AISA  Representing international schools in sub-Saharan Africa, AISA has a membership of eighty schools which range in size from 7 to 1380 students. Strongly influenced by their location and cosmopolitan student enrollment, some schools have an American based curriculum, some are British and some offer a variety of educational programs. AISA's focus is serving the varying needs of nearly 20,000 students and 1400 teachers and administrators.

CENTRAL AND EASTERN
EUROPEAN SCHOOLS ASSOCIATION
CEESA

CEESA represents international schools in Central and Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union. The purpose of the association is to provide educational programs of the kind which member schools can not provide for themselves in as cost effective manner. CEESA's programs and services are vital to the educational missions of its member schools.

EAST ASIA REGIONAL COUNCIL OF OVERSEAS SCHOOLS

EARCOS was founded in 1968 as a result of growth in the 1960's of American Schools in East Asia, along with the needs of these schools to develop supportive relationships. In many cases, the schools were geographically isolated, both from each other and from the main stream of American education.

INTERNATIONAL EDUCATOR’S INSTITUTE
TIE

The organization facilitates the placement of teachers and administrators in American, British, and international overseas schools.  It seeks to create a network that provides for professional development opportunities and offers advice and consulting on recent international school news and educational developments. Additionally TIE operates an International Schools Internship Program. TIE Publishes "The International Educator" magazine five times a year.

Inter-Regional Center for Curriculum  and Materials Development
IRC

The Inter-Regional Center (IRC) for Curriculum and Materials Development was established in 1969 as a means of providing American-sponsored overseas schools in Mexico, Central America, Colombia and the Caribbean 1) professional development opportunities, 2) curriculum materials and 3) information and resources on pertinent educational matters. Today the IRC serves a total of 30 schools with 80 administrators, 1500 teachers, and over 25,000 students.

MEDITERRANEAN ASSOCIATION OF INTERNATIONAL SCHOOLS
MAIS

The Mediterranean Association of International Schools (MAIS) was formed in 1981 by joining the Maghreb Association and the Iberian Council of International Schools. MAIS presently has 17 Member Schools located in Spain, Portugal, Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia and Italy. Associate Memberships are available for schools, colleges, businesses and interested individuals and organizations worldwide.        
 All MAIS Member Schools have an American based curriculum; however, each is influenced by its geographical location, student body and diversity of nationalities in its community. The MAIS focus is to assist its members to evaluate and meet the varying educational needs which result from providing an American education in an international setting. MAIS Members and Associates are provided with opportunities to liase with Member Schools through their participation at the Annual MAIS Conference and other MAIS activities throughout the year.
